hehe
- me thinks you need to have a word with the person that you rent
your database from. |

This
is not a nomination for an ugly car (because the BX is already in
the list) I just have the feeling that the BX on your site is to nice.
A real ugly BX is white, has a 1.4 (60HP) Engine, a huge spoiler and
preferably is parked for a short period (so the front is still high
and the back already low). My old BX has it all. Maybe it is nice
to tell I bought it for 30 English Pounds, which makes it not only
the ugliest car in the world, but also the cheapest one. Here is a
photo of "the ugliest car in the world". Feel free to use it! |
Thanks
for the pic - it certainly is ugly, but I wouldn't have paid as
much as 30 Pounds for it.
Also for those of you who can read Dutch there is a site about the
BX here:

| Datsun
120y |
Rats

The
above is in my professional opinion, well minging. The Marina Coupe
is also a noteworthy dog of a motor. The allegro estate is an ideal
"Dwarf Hearse" |
So
you're a professional what? The 120y would be a worthy addition to
the site. |
| Multipla
(again) |
Lorr |
Very amusing on a dull dreich Sunday afternoon but surely an update
is required. The poor Fiat Multipla is quite nice to drive but as
Motoring corespondent for Tay AM, it was me who had to wear the paper
bag whilst test driving. |

part 4 |

Lorr |
Just
read part 4 and yes I am dumb enough to nominate a car that has already
been included before. That's women motorists for you. |
no
comment. |
| Talbot
Tagora |
Emanuele |
Brick-like
styling and a stone-age 2.2 liters engine. Materials on the inside
made you feel as if Barbie had lent you her pink cabriolet. I think
that a few more than six units were sold. Not bad for a car which
was designed to put Talbot back on the run |
I
would like to add the Tagora to the site - but I desperately need
a photo. |
| Talbot
Tagora |
Adam
Galliford |
As
if to illustrate the contempt that the French have for the rest of
the world, they inflict the Tagora on us.Styled during a blackout caused
by the usual industrial unrest with only the aid of a set square it
had the normal Talbot qualities of clattering engines and wafer thin
bodywork which has thankfully resulted in very few survivors. Another
rain forest of paperbags bites the dust!!. |
see
above. |
| Citroen
XM |
Paul
Knibbs |
If
the BX deserves to be on this site, the XM deserves to be here ten
times over, given its status as possibly the ugliest car Citroen ever
produced. This is a car which makes the Ford Scorpio look like a design
classic, and I think it is a national scandal it isn't here! |
I
donn't think I've got any room left for any more Citroens. |

Thanks
for the great web page.....I haven't laughed like that in a long long
time!!!!!!!! The grand finale for me was the "Bubble Car", that brought
the tears down my face from laughing so hard!!! |
Err
thanks - glad you're so easily amused! |

Stumbled
across your site by accident -- which is apparently how most of the
vehicles you show were designed -- and wasted lots of time having
lots of fun. Great work. I always thought the old Saab 3-cylinder
cars (the bulbous ones) were pretty sorry sights. Can't remember the
names of them off hand. The old VW fastback was pretty ugly, too.
I don't know what they were called in the U.K. |
Thanks
David, one of those old Saabs is featured on this site - but I need
a better photo of one. |
| new
Subaru Impreza |
Andy
Connolly |
The
new Impreza takes all the nice bits from the current one, and throws
them right out of the window! the lights are obviously nicked from
the Toyota Corolla, and are thus very very ugly. Apparently it will
come with limo black windows as standard across the range, no need
for those paper bags! |
Indeed!
I see that you can already buy replacement headlamp kits for the new
Impreza. |
| Talbot
Simca Rancho |
John |
It
couldn't claw its way out of a puddle It was made of plastic It was
gutless, French and less use than fleas are to someone with 3rd degree
sunburn. |
certainly
was rubbish. |

White |
Had
a look around the site, and didn't spot the ever lovely Matra Rancho
- It looks like a cross betwen a Land Rover Discovery (Don't ask me
how, I can only assume Talbot tinkered with time travel for a bit)
and a shoe box full of twigs and dog dirt. Not only was it offensively
ugly, the 'rugged look' was also a complete pretense as it was front-wheel-drive
and hideously underpowered (1.5 litre I think) engine. Anyway - A
sure fire minger... |
thanks
Dan - maybe it will be added in the near future. |

| Pontiac
Aztek |

I'm
not sure if you have these in Britain, but this has to be the ugliest
car in America. It's the Pontiac Aztec. http://www.pontiac.com/aztek/index.html |
This
car has been nominated dozens of times by our American cousins, however
as far as I know the Aztek has not made an appearance in Britain. |

I
owned one of these in the '70's, and it turned heads (and stomachs)
everywhere I went. (I never figured out what made it "Super".) I don't
know whatever became of it, but it probably went to recycling and
came back as a few dozen bedpans. Unfortunately (fortunately?), I
don't have a picture of this monstrosity. |
Thanks

Great
Web Site.... .... just a bit slow to access... :( I've linked to your
site from mine since I hate my Renault Laguna estate (not just the
looks, but everything else as well). Thanks for the good humour and
"don't care" attitude!. |
Thanks
- note the site has changed hosts since this email (Dec 00) so hopefully
these days it's a bit quicker. |

Graham |
I
was just about to send you an abusive email when I couldn't stop laughing.
Yes, I am a Citroen Owner and lust over the most Bizzarre French cars
possible. It is true in what you say about these motors, and thats
why some of us like them. Ford, Vauxhall, VW etc. need a good shafting
for being boring! Lighten up world, Fiat has! (Multipla) |
glad
you decided against the abuse - sadly some people don't seem to have
a sense of humour. Tough for them eh? |
| Daihatsu
HiJet MPV |
nheys |
Thank
the lord that some has already nominated the Bond Bug .... after all
us owners have our reputations to consider you know! .... actually
if you do decide to list the Bug it might lend your site more credibility
than intended:-))) Now then .... what about those Daihatsu HiJet MPV
things then? all the styling panache (not to mention aerodynamics)
of a brick and totally gut less as well! however they do seat 6 in
total misery .... so I reckon that that might be the highest bag count
per vehicle - 6 people times 5 bags = 30 bags? is it a record Norris?
So I claim the saddest car owner of the month award please .... I
own both of these! .... and a Clan Crusader as well (but I'll bet
you can't even find a photo of that one). great site .... keep up
the good work .... no doubt it has already been selected for the "waste
of band width" awards then? :-) |
Yep,
we've been recommended in many publications as a good waste of time
and bandwidth! |
| Trabant 601 |

Mole-Sears |
I
swapped one of these for a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red in Dresden.
The Easat German registration document decared it to be a "Trabant
601 Limousine"... The 600 was imported here for a short time... does
this count? |
I
suppose if it was officially imported then it does qualify for inclusion. |

I
notice that few magazines will come out openly and say "ugly" they
just say "it grows on you" or someting equally silly. My vote is for
the 1949 (?) Lea Francis L21 sports car ( I think it was L21 ??) It
is awful ! |
OK
I'll look out for a pic. |

Wear |
Having
found by happy chance your uglycars of Britain website, combining
my favorite topics: Britain and cars, I read them all, shocked --
nay, stunned -- to find that I had owned not one, but two, of the
featured vehicles. In 1960 I owned what we called a "bug-eyed Sprite."
It was white, with a matching roll bar made of cast iron pipe (painted
to match, though). It came (used; I paid about $600 for it) with a
removable fibreglas top, which we used to take off (one person could
do it, it was so light) and left it on the front lawn in Providence,
Rhode Island, in nice weather. It had side-curtains, which I rarely
put on, so it collected a lot of rain and snow. It had no carpets,
just a bare metal floor, but it finally got so full of water, that
drilled holes in the floor to drain the water out. The second one
in time was the Daimler SP250 (I didn't recall the Dart name, but
that's sure a picture of the car we had) which my first husband bought
in late 1963. It had perfectly bald tires, all the better to drive
in the snow and ice of a New England winter. Through your website,
I have finally got my 15 minutes of fame. You folks in Britain do
excellent websites; I only wish you still actually made cars. My first
was an MG TD, then the Goliath (nominated separately for your website),
the bug-eyed Sprite, a Sprite Mark II, an MGB (at the same time as
the SP250), MG 1100 (with Alec Issigonis's water/oil suspension) etc.
We have not bought an American car in my family since 1951, when my
father bought a Morris MInor, and never looked back. He then had a
Riley 2 1/2 liter, an Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire, and so on. Now
I have to look at the Japanese and Germans for stuff that looks reasonably
good, and has some eclat. At least Daimler-Benz is dumping Chrysler.
Regards, Nancy Wear (Miami, Florida) |
Thanks
Nancy. You can still buy true British cars, if you want a TVR, Morgan
or a number of models from other specialist (usually sports) car manufacturers. |

I
do believe that the 'Ford Focd Us' reviewer meant 'pants' when he
said arse curtains. Jolly spiffing site old bean. pip pip. |
Thanks
for filling me in on that one. |

Knight. |
Your
description of the Citroen BX is rather unjust I feel, as an Owner
of one of these superb cars I do feel that the BX has faired quite
well on your site. Remember that for every paper bag on your review
of the BX there are thousands of satisfied owners throughout Europe,
more than the hits on your site! |
I
really, really pity you. |

A
truly sorry-looking entry in the hybrid class. Perhaps the appearance
is meant to distract from the abysmal performance and lack of interior
space. |
I
agree - the Insight is featured on page
